Do I need to be home?
It is not necessary for the homeowner to be present during the solar panel reinstallation, unless requested. However, we will require access to the roof and the inverter, which is usually located on the side of the house. It is important to ensure that we have the necessary access to complete the reinstallation process efficiently and effectively.
K

How does the solar company protect my roof during the summer seasons after a new roof install?
At Detach Reset Solar™ roof protection is one of our top priorities when it comes to reinstalling solar panels. To ensure the safety of your roof, we use mats to protect the main walkways during the installation process. Additionally, we spray water on the shingles to cool them down and keep them compact while we walk on them.
K

We aim to complete the solar panel removal and reinstallation process within three weeks or less. In most cases, we can put you on the schedule within 5 days and complete the removal of the solar panels within a day, provided that everything goes according to plan.

Once the solar panels have been removed, we will work with your roofing company on replacing and inspecting the roof, which usually takes around one week. Once they are done with the roof, and it passes its final inspection, we can immediately reinstall the solar panels. This streamlined process helps to ensure that your solar system is up and running as soon as possible, allowing you to start enjoying the benefits of solar energy again.

K
L
Will you work with our insurance company?
Absolutely, at Detach Reset Solar™, we are committed to making the process of detaching and reinstalling solar panels as seamless as possible. We understand that dealing with insurance companies or roofing companies can be a hassle, which is why we offer to work directly with them on your behalf. Our team has experience in navigating the insurance and roofing industries, and we will ensure that the costs of the detach and reinstall of your solar panels are fully covered. Our goal is to minimize your stress and hassle, allowing you to focus on other important aspects of your life.
K
L
Who pays for the power not being generated by my solar after the Detach and before the reset?
At Detach Reset Solar™, we understand that the removal and reinstall process may cause the homeowner to pay both the solar bill as well as the utility bill, which can result in a slight increase in their utility bill. However, we strive to complete our jobs efficiently and aim to finish within one month, unlike most other companies that take up to 90 days. As a result, the spike in utilities bill is minor, and we prioritize completing the job in a timely manner to minimize any inconvenience to the homeowner. Ultimately, paying the power bill is the responsibility of the homeowner.

What is net metering?
Net metering is a billing arrangement between a utility company and a homeowner with solar panels. Under net metering, the homeowner's solar panels generate electricity that is fed back into the grid. The utility company tracks the amount of electricity that the homeowner generates and uses, and credits the homeowner for any excess energy they produce. The homeowner is billed only for the net energy they use, which is the difference between the electricity they generate and the electricity they consume.

Net metering allows homeowners with solar panels to reduce their electricity bills and even earn credits from their utility company. It also helps to promote the use of renewable energy by incentivizing homeowners to generate their own electricity from solar panels. Net metering policies vary by state and utility company, so it is important to check with your local utility company to understand the specific details of the program.

What is a Kilowatt hour?
A kilowatt-hour (kWh) is a unit of energy used to measure the amount of electricity consumed over time. It is defined as the amount of energy used by a device that requires one kilowatt of power for one hour of operation. In other words, if you leave a 100-watt light bulb on for 10 hours, you will have used 1 kilowatt-hour of electricity. The kilowatt-hour is the standard unit of measurement used by utility companies to bill customers for their electricity usage.
K
L
What is a Watt vs a Kilowatt?
A watt (W) is a unit of power, which measures the rate at which energy is used or generated per second. One watt is equal to one joule per second. For example, if a device uses 100 watts, it means that it consumes 100 joules of energy every second.

A kilowatt (kW) is a unit of power that is equal to 1000 watts. It is commonly used to measure the power output of electrical devices and the capacity of power plants. For example, a typical residential solar panel system may have a capacity of 5 kW, which means that it can generate up to 5,000 watts of power under optimal conditions.

K
L
How does the efficiency of solar panels affect their performance?

The efficiency of solar panels is a measure of how well they convert sunlight into usable electricity. Higher efficiency panels are able to generate more electricity for a given amount of sunlight than lower efficiency panels. This means that, all other things being equal, higher efficiency panels will perform better than lower efficiency panels.

In practical terms, this means that a solar panel with an efficiency of 20% will generate more electricity than a panel with an efficiency of 15% when both are exposed to the same amount of sunlight. This is because the higher efficiency panel is able to convert a greater percentage of the sunlight it receives into electricity.

K
L
What percentage does efficiency drop in a solar panel per year?
The efficiency drop in a solar panel per year depends on various factors such as the type and quality of the panel, the manufacturer, environmental conditions, and maintenance. On average, most solar panels experience an annual efficiency drop of around 0.5% to 1%. However, some high-quality panels can retain up to 80% of their initial efficiency even after 25 years. Proper maintenance and cleaning of solar panels can also help to minimize efficiency drops over time.
K
L
What is the impact of weather and climate on solar panel performance and output?
Cloudy or overcast weather can reduce the amount of sunlight that reaches the solar panels, which in turn can lower their efficiency and output.

However, this doesn't mean that solar panels won't work on cloudy days at all. They will still generate some electricity, just not as much as they would on a sunny day.

Similarly, snow and ice can accumulate on the surface of the panels and reduce their ability to generate electricity. If snow or ice is left on the panels for a prolonged period of time, it can cause damage to the panels or their mounting structures. In areas that experience heavy snowfall, it is important to make sure that your solar panels are installed at an angle that allows the snow to slide off easily.

High temperatures can cause solar panels to become less efficient. This is because the heat can reduce the efficiency of the photovoltaic cells, which convert sunlight into electricity. When the temperature of the panels rises, the voltage and current output of the cells can decrease, resulting in reduced energy production.

How to clean solar panels?

Cleaning solar panels is important to ensure that they are operating at maximum efficiency. Over time, dirt, dust, and other debris can accumulate on the surface of the panels, which can reduce their ability to absorb sunlight and generate electricity. Here are some tips on how to clean your solar panels:

Check with your manufacturer: Before cleaning your solar panels, it is important to check with your manufacturer to see if they have any specific instructions or recommendations for cleaning their particular brand of panels. Some manufacturers may recommend specific cleaning solutions or techniques that are best for their products.

Choose the right time of day: It is best to clean your solar panels either early in the morning or late in the evening when the panels are cool and not in direct sunlight. Cleaning them during the day when they are hot can cause the cleaning solution to evaporate quickly, leaving behind streaks.

Use the right cleaning solution: When cleaning your solar panels, use a mild soap solution or a commercial cleaning solution specifically designed for solar panels. Avoid using abrasive materials, such as scrub brushes or steel wool, as they can scratch the surface of the panels.

Rinse with water: After applying the cleaning solution, rinse the panels with a hose or pressure washer. Make sure to rinse thoroughly to remove all the cleaning solution and any remaining debris.

Lastly, avoid walking on the panels: Walking on the panels can cause damage, so it is best to clean them from the ground using a long-handled brush or squeegee. If you must get on the roof to clean the panels, use caution and take proper safety precautions.
